Founded in 1992, Camp Pocono Trails has been a leader in the health and wellness camp industry for over three decades. Under the visionary leadership of Tony Sparber, the camp has been a beacon of hope for families seeking to combat childhood obesity and foster healthy lifestyles in their children. Tony’s passion for this mission began long before the founding of Camp Pocono Trails, making his recent retirement announcement all the more poignant. After over 30 years of dedicated service, Tony and his wife Dale are more than deserving of a well-earned retirement.
At Camp New Heights, we've always recognized Camp Pocono Trails as a respected competitor in the wellness space. Though our programs have differed in approach, we’ve shared a common goal: to provide an exceptional summer camp experience that empowers campers to lead active and healthy lives. Over the years, we’ve had the privilege of working with numerous families who were deciding between our two camps. While each camp has its unique strengths, we have always admired Camp Pocono Trails’ commitment to serving its families with care and dedication.
With the closing of Camp Pocono Trails, we want to extend an open invitation to all its families to join us at Camp New Heights. While our landscape and campus may differ, we are confident that our program can continue to support your campers in achieving the goals that Tony Sparber so passionately pursued. As Tony famously said, "We're going to get you into the best physical and mental shape of your life," a sentiment we wholeheartedly embrace at Camp New Heights. At Camp New Heights your attitude determines your altitude.
As we enter our ninth year, Camp New Heights continues to evolve with the ever-changing needs of our campers. We have consistently refined our schedule and programs to better serve our campers, equipping them with the skills, tools, and knowledge they need to lead active and healthy lives. Our camp is designed for kids and teens of all ability levels, focusing not just on weight loss but on fostering a lifelong commitment to health and wellness.
Since their inception camps specializing in fitness, nutrition, and weight loss have been labeled as "fat camp." Fitstays defines "fat camps" as:
"A “fat camp” is the common name for an all-inclusive weight loss summer camp for kids, teens, and young adults. Children who may be struggling with obesity, body image issues, or self esteem concerns due to their weight may benefit from a weight loss camp. These camps work through a dedicated program of diet, exercise, and education. Most camps offer a one- or two-week session, but campers may prefer to stay for multiple weeks at a time. Some weight loss camps may offer sessions that span most of the summer."
However, we firmly believe that terms like "fat camp" are outdated and do not reflect the true essence of what we offer. At Camp New Heights, we are much more than a weight loss camp. We are a fitness, nutrition, and weight loss camp that offers a specialized curriculum tailored to each camper's unique needs. Whether your child is looking to lose weight, improve their physical abilities, or simply enjoy a healthy, active summer, we are here to support them every step of the way.
With the closing of Camp Pocono Trails, we understand that many families are now searching for a new summer camp experience. We want to extend a heartfelt invitation to you to join us at Camp New Heights. While our setting and programs may differ, we share the same commitment to helping your child achieve their best physical and mental well-being. We are confident that our camp can provide the support, community, and positive environment your family is looking for.
